Dominant Italy strengthens lead in group with Belgians after big win against Israel
Mission accomplished for Italy. The Azzurri managed to win convincingly against Israel. It eventually became 4-1 after two goals from captain Di Lorenzo and an Olympic goal from Israel. With the defeat of the red devils, Italy is already assured of at least a second place.
In the same group as the Belgians, Italy and Israel faced each other tonight. The Azzurri remained in the lead after their draw against the Red Devils. Israel has not yet been able to collect any points in this Nations League campaign.
Just like in the match between Belgium and France, a penalty provided the first goal, after Peretz tapped Tonali. Retegui was allowed to take place on the penalty spot and put the 1-0 on the scoreboard just before half-time.
In the second half of the match, Italy quickly decided to play out their dominance. With loud encouragement from Spalletti, the Italian team took complete control of the match. Di Lorenzo headed in the double lead early in the second half. Italy did not put on the brakes afterwards. They continued to play dominant and attacking football.
Completely against the run of play, Israel scored the equalizer in the middle of the second half, in a particularly beautiful way. Abu Fani actually scored an Olympic goal and kicked a corner kick straight into the net of Vicario.
The Israelis didn’t have long to enjoy it, as Frattesi and Di Lorenzo quickly scored the 3-1 and 4-1, which also became the final score. Another beautiful moment in Udine. Spalletti gave another new player his debut. Daniel Maldini, son of the famous footballer Paolo Maldini, got another fifteen minutes of playing time.
In the end, it was a resounding victory for the Azzurri. They thus strengthened their leading position even more. With their victory and the defeat of the Belgians against France, Italy is already assured of at least second place.
