Nations League: Croatia beats Scotland to temporarily join Portugal at the top

Croatia today provisionally joined Portugal at the top of Group A1 of the Football Nations League, after beating Scotland 2-1 at home, on the third day of the competition.

In Zagreb, the two teams, both defeated by Portugal in the previous rounds, were level at half-time, after Ryan Christie scored in the 33rd minute for the Scots and Matanovic equalised for the home team in the 36th minute. In the second half, Kramaric put Croatia ahead in the 70th minute, but they almost cancelled out the lead in injury time (90+5), when the Scots had a goal disallowed for offside.

The win leaves Croatia with six points from three games, the same as Portugal, who will face Poland today at the National Stadium in Warsaw at 20:45 local time (19:45 in Lisbon) and who, if they score, will maintain their lead in the group.

Scotland, who remain in last place without a single point, will host the Portuguese national team on Tuesday in the fourth round of matches.

The top two teams from each of the four groups in League A of the fourth edition of the competition will advance to the quarter-finals.
